About this role

Purpose of the Job

To provide oversight of all accounting activities at branch level and support effective financial and inventory management operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the availability and proper utilisation of warehouse accounting documents, including stock cards.
  • Reporting warehouse accounting matters to the Branch Manager.
  • Planning and coordinating training programmes for branch accounts staff.
  • Supporting inventory management in accordance with established stock management principles.
  • Preparing branch financial statements in accordance with accounting and statutory requirements.
  • Supporting cash flow planning and management.
  • Assisting in budget preparation and budgetary control.
  • Ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervising branch accounts staff.
  • Maintaining stock records and monitoring warehouse stock ledgers.
  • Coordinating stock reviews and identifying obsolete and surplus inventory.
  • Facilitating stock takes and inventory verification exercises.
  • Advising relevant departments on slow- and fast-moving products.
  • Supporting compliance with pharmaceutical storage requirements and safety standards.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Branch Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from a recognised institution.
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or CPA.
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.

Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in a busy accounting environment.
  • Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) is required.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Team player with sound professional judgement.
