DIRECTOR GENERAL

MITC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and result-oriented Malawian professionals to fill the vacant position of Director General tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe on a live (5) years performance-based contract.
Who should apply
An individual who believes and can demonstrate that he/she is mature, visionary, results-oriented, dynamic, passionate, self-starter, team player and committed to spearhead the country’s investment and trade promotion efforts. The candidate should have:
- Proven leadership and executive management experience
- Strong knowledge of international trade, investment promotion, and business development.
- Experience in engaging with investors, Chambers of Commerce, development partners, financial institutions, and Government agencies.
- Sound understanding of regional and international trade protocols.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in English, proficiency in other official foreign languages will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The Director General shall:
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of MITC.
- Drive investment promotion, export development, and Special Economic Zone initiatives.
- Coordinate local, regional, and international investment promotion programmes.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with investors, Government, private sector institutions, development partners, and other relevant international institutions.
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative investment and trade marketing strategies.
- Oversee corporate governance, institutional performance, and organizational development.
- Mobilization of finances from donors and other organizations.
- Provide leadership in the operations of One Stop Service Centre.
- Take lead on land allocation matters and promote industrial park and factory shells development, as investment promotion and sustainable revenue-generating initiatives.
- Ensure effective implementation of the Investment and Export Promotion Act, 2024, Special Economic Zones Act, 2024 and any other powers and functions assigned under any written law or Government policy.
- Ensure effective implementation and achievement of MIT’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A Master’s Degree in Trade, Investment, or any Business-related fields. A Bachelor’s Degree in Trade, Investment or any Business-related field obtained from accredited institutions of higher learning.
- At least ten years post qualification work experience in trade, investment, or business, a minimum of five years of which should be in a senior management position.
- Demonstrable experience working in the implementation, or promotion, of trade, investment or any business-related initiatives by Government, international organization or private sector institution at local or international level.
- Strong strategic leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong corroboration skills with various stakeholders at local and/or international level.
