About this role

Purpose of the Job

To provide safe, reliable and efficient transport services for CMST personnel, goods and official correspondence while ensuring proper care, maintenance and security of assigned vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Driving officers of the Trust in accordance with approved travel schedules and instructions.
  • Delivering mail, documents and goods to authorised destinations on behalf of the Trust.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks and journey records.
  • Conducting routine inspections and ensuring the roadworthiness, cleanliness and neatness of assigned vehicles.
  • Reporting vehicle defects and maintenance requirements and ensuring timely servicing of assigned vehicles.
  • Ensuring the safety, security and protection of assigned vehicles at all times.
  • Ensuring safe and secure transportation and delivery of goods and supplies belonging to the Trust.
  • Undertaking messenger duties and supporting general administrative transport requirements.
  • Adhering to traffic laws, regulations and safe driving standards.
  • Monitoring fuel usage and reporting irregularities.
  • Assisting during loading and offloading of goods where necessary.
  • Ensuring emergency equipment and vehicle documentation are available and up to date.
  • Supporting fleet management activities and any other transport-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (SCE) or its equivalent.
  • Valid CE Driving Licence with PGD categories.
  • Defensive Driving Certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ progressive driving experience.
  • Free from previous convictions relating to traffic offences.
  • Mechanical knowledge will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in driving a variety of articulated vehicles.
