As Finance Associate, you will report to the Budget & Finance Specialist and play a key role in strengthening UNICEF Malawi’s financial accountability, stewardship, and operational efficiency. You will provide high-quality finance and accounting support, contributing to effective financial management, compliance, and the efficient use of resources across the organization. In this role, you will support a broad range of financial management activities by delivering accurate and reliable financial information, analysis, and services that strengthen accountability, support informed decision-making, and promote the effective use of organizational resources. The role also involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance on financial procedures, resolving discrepancies, maintaining audit-ready records, and contributing to continuous process improvements. Through a strong commitment to integrity, accuracy, and service excellence, you will help safeguard resources and support efficient financial operations that contribute to better results for children.

UNICEF Malawi’s finance function enables programme delivery and as Finance Associate, you will strengthen stewardship, timely payments, compliance and audit-ready operations that deliver better results for children.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education: Completion of Secondary Education is required
  • Work Experience: At least 6 years of relevant work experience in Financial Management, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Budgeting, Treasury, Expense Management, Financial Compliance, Financial Analysis and any other related fields
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of reconciliations, financial reporting, and transaction processing, with the ability to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures. Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, resolve irregularities, and recommend practical solutions to support accurate reporting and decision-making. Experience in cost estimates, year-end accounts, and audit documentation with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP), financial management applications, Microsoft Excel, and digital tools for data management, analysis, and reporting. Strong communication, interpersonal, and client-service skills. Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required
